"Anything user based will be highly abused."

Have you looked at the Google results lately? Sheesh! Talk about being highly abused.

Yes, of course I have systems in place to prevent that kind of systematic down-voting and cheating that you're talking about. As SW grows I will continue to analyze the results and improve those systems to keep things fair.

I don't see how the point could be any more clear. People without a track record are rarely considered trustworthy. People with a good track record usually are considered trustworthy. It's that simple.

New users aren't "sidelined", as you say. Their vote counts. But a user who has built up a track record of submitting sites that other users like has a vote that counts more.

By establishing credibility in the most unpredictable and uncontrollable manner, you’re sidelining new users? How do you actually define a poor track record? A user who has suggested a site / sites but with negative votes? How if I don't like a site or if a group of people deliberately organize a systematic down-voting of a site, just because the site is a direct competitor? Not only the site will be affected, the user's credibility who suggested the site will be affected as well.

There are more items I wish to say, but my main point is, you better have a good system behind Searchwinds as anything user based will be highly abused.

In the real world, a person’s input on what’s good or bad depends on the individual’s credibility and track record. If a person has proven in the past that their opinions are valuable and trustworthy, then naturally their opinions hold a lot of weight.

Very weak and vague point. It's true in the most general sense, but then again, credibility in that sense can be "created", "faked" and somewhat too superficial to be deemed genuine. How can you determine that their past opinions have been "proven" valuable and trustworthy? Just by depending on "similar votes" doesn't give you the right to define one's credibility.

If a person has proven in the past that their opinions are valuable and trustworthy, then naturally their opinions hold a lot of weight. On the other hand, if a person has no proven track record, or worse, a poor one, then their opinions won’t hold nearly as much weight.

My website is also known as Information Depot which is on page one of all three major searech engines. I like the the concept that you present and I think that it will fly. I will help anyway that I can, as I think that it will be beneficial to all concerned.

This will be a real attempt at improving search results for serious surfers, who at present do not always get the results they expect.

Search results for an information seeker are obviously different to those of a potential buyer. I like Wiki, but I don't alway want to see Wiki at the top on page 1 when I am looking for a specific product!

At least now users can have a voice/vote on search results in a democratic process! Perhaps Jon, you could do the same for politicians and their popularity!

PS: I don't know how you have the time to keep coming up with these innovative and useful free sites and still have time to earn a living!

This is going to be a very interesting experiment! I am really looking forward to this!

Credibility has long been a very big issue for me since there has been a lot of suspicious activity and scamming out there.

It has been really difficult to determine who you can trust and who not.

I can still see some issues even if we do it this way but is certainly is a step in the right direction - there is no doubt about that.

Best wishes

Rolf The Finn

P.S My site above is brand new so you will not find anything there just yet. There will be soon ...
